Andrew Huggan has just gotten the support role at Skerryvore’s King Tut’s Gig in Glasgow. Thrilled for Andrew. He was the one who told me about Skerryvore to begin with.

Siobhan Day will be performing at another L E D event at McHugh’s Bar on April 21st, along with Orla Lynch, The Vires, Nathaniel McCauley, & Pete McCauley. Coast will be on the Karin Ingram’s Sunday Getherin’ show on Radio Borders on 24th April. They will also be featuring cuts from the new album. Blaggards

Blaggards have the well deserved honor of being the first Indie band invited to join Ping the new social networking site built into Itunes. They are featured artists right along side major label artists. Let’s hear it for Indies! Another exciting news item from the band is that their song Big Strong Man from their first cd Standards will be heard in the upcoming film The Kid starring Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice), Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show), and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four). Directed by Nick Moran (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), and based on the best-selling book by Kevin Lewis. The film will be released in the UK on Sept 17th. Congratulations to this great band!

The Rogues

Another great Texas band, The Rogues, has just released their 9th album 3 Pounds of Rage . The album has 14 traditional and original tracks spanning folk, rock, and classical music, as well as “The Gael” from Last of the Mohicans. We hope to have a review of it soon.

Andrew has just announced that he will be supporting the British Celt Rock band Coast in a show at Southampton Soul Cellar in Southampton England on Dec 11th of this year, Andrew has worked with Coast in the past when they toured Scotland. Congratulations to Andrew.

Celtic Thunder

Celtic Thunder fans who wish to attend the final show of the tour should know that tickets go on sale for the Binghamton show tomorrow, Sept 10th, at 10 AM EDT. The final show is always a very special show to attend. I was at the final show of the first tour and it is quite an experience. Binghamton was where they played the very first show of the very first tour so it is a special place to them. I wish I could go myself.

And now onto the fan request. One of our members is combining her love for all things Celtic, rock music and fashion design into her grad studies at Empire State College. She would ultimately like to have a show of fashions she designs inspired by Celtic culture and history and rock and roll. She needs the help of other like minded fans to help get her project off the ground. She has posted a survey that will help give her a better idea of what fans want in this type of clothing. Coast released their first full length album last November on the Awen label to critical acclaim. The album is available in the US through cdbaby. For those who have never listened to any Celtrock, I will list a few of my favorites. Some are very well known to our readers but there may be a few you haven’t heard of and need to check out. Give these bands a listen. This is just a sampling there are lots of other bands out there to discover and I will post more as I find them or they find me.

Seven Nations is a very popular band from Florida. Don’t miss them if they come to your area. Barley Juice is a great band out of Philadelphia, PA If that is your neck of the woods, seek them out. Also look for them at festivals this summer.
