I’ve been enjoying this album for several days now. Ben Glover’s voice is as smooth as chocolate and Before the Birds is as warm and comfortable as your favorite fleece on Saturday morning.

Ben either wrote or co-wrote all the songs and each one is perfect for him. The more you listen to them the more you hear. These are songs about love rather than songs about being in love. You’ll be hooked on them right away. From A Trick of the Light to the atmospheric At The Car Park each one has a story to tell. If I had to pick a favorite it would be a tie between To Believe and You Are The Same As The Tide but I’m certain every listener will find several they connect with and love. This album will mellow out even the toughest commute. It’s is a must have.

Ben Glover Releases New CD

Ben Glover is a very talented singer-songwriter from Glenarm, N.Ireland. He also spends time in Nashville TN so he is more accessible to US audiences than some of the other NI acts we cover.

Ben is releasing his 3rd CD Before The Birds today. You can find it at ITunes in the UK here and in the US here. The cd is also available at cdbaby here.

Here are what some of our favorite performers are up to.

Andrew Huggan has just gotten the support role at Skerryvore’s King Tut’s Gig in Glasgow. Thrilled for Andrew. He was the one who told me about Skerryvore to begin with.

Siobhan Day will be performing at another L E D event at McHugh’s Bar on April 21st, along with Orla Lynch, The Vires, Nathaniel McCauley, & Pete McCauley. Only £4 and all proceeds go to Chernobyl Childrens Appeal NI Ltd Great night of entertainment to help a good cause. What’s not to like? For more info check out the event page at Facebook here

Cat Malojian will be playing at La Boca, 6 Fountain Street, Belfast April 10th at 7:30 £5 at the door. For more info check their website here.

Cashier No.9 is playing at Club Fandango at 229 Great Portland Street in London tonight at 8 PM. You can also hear a radio interview with the band here They will also be doing a G Session at the Cellar Bar in Draperstown on May 21st along with ELSPETH

Gareth Brannigan will be playing at Joymount Arms (Ownies),16-18 Joymount, Carrickfergus Mar 31. 10 PM

Captain Kennedy will be at Mercantile Hotel in Dublin for The Sunday Roast on April 10th. In case you have not yet heard there killer new album you can hear it here

Coast will be on the Karin Ingram’s Sunday Getherin’ show on Radio Borders on 24th April. They will also be featuring cuts from the new album. Also they have announced that their album launch show at the Inverness Ironworks on 7th May will now be supported by Donald Macdonald (& The Islands)

Lots of exciting things have been happening for Ben Glover. He is back in the studio in Nashville working on a new cd. This album will also be produced by Neilson Hubbard, who produced Ben’s last album Through the Noise, Through the Night. We will be sure to let you know when the new album is released.

News from Ben Glover

Ben has spent the past year going back and forth between Belfast and Nashville, writing for his next studio project. “I love the creative vibe I get when I’m in Tennessee. I’ve found some amazing artists and writers that I really enjoy creating music with. I’ve written with some of the same guys that I collaborated with for “Through the Noise, Through the Night” as well as some new writers that I’m really excited about working with. The hardest part of this next record is trying to figure out which songs to record. Right now we’ve got to narrow it down from about 30 songs that are in the running.” He is teaming up with Producer Neilson Hubbard in the studio again for the project. “Neilson and I have such a great relationship. We’ve already begun the pre-production process which begins with chicken and chips at Dan McGuiness Pub (on Music Row). Aside from music, he has given me the best education about professional (American) football and made me a true New Orleans Saints fan! In return I’ve enlightened Neilson as to the wonders of the kings of English football – Manchester City!!” The two head into the studio the first part of December. We will keep you posted throughout the process as Ben will be blogging about it and giving full reports on the website.

Ben is gigging at Grand Central Station this week so if you commute to NYC be sure and look for him there. Ben and fellow singer/songwriter Anthony Toner were chosen by Tourism Ireland to represent the Northern Ireland music scene with daily acoustic sets at Vanderbilt Hall. The week long event being run by Tourism Ireland that also includes performances by celebrated actors, and exhibits by acclaimed local artists as well as a spectacular “Titanic” exhibition. We are getting geared up for Arthur’s Day here at Fanrealm. There were so many great acts that we wanted to feature we have had to divide them up into three separate posts. Today we will feature probably the greatest Irish Indie act of all time- The Saw Doctors along with several Irish Musicians who have made their way to our side of the pond. Some came for a short time, some go back and forth and some immigrated just as many of our ancestors did. That gives us a special bond to them, the way I look at it. Listen their music (and go ahead have some Guinness too – Arthur won’t mind) Tomorrow we will feature other Irish artists and we will rock into the weekend on Friday with some out of this world Celtrock bands so sit back and Enjoy!

Through the Noise, Through the Night by Ben Glover

Ben Glover is a singer/songwriter from County Antrim in Northern Ireland but he also spends time in Nashville. I discovered Ben several months ago when I downloaded his song Where the Lines Are at the NI Charts site. I became an instant fan so I was happy to be asked to review his album.

This, his second album, was recorded in Nashville and you can detect that wonderful mellow realism that is part of the city’s style throughout. The songs have great lyrics. They spin intimate tales of dreamers, lovers and all of those who have reached the point in life where they realize that fabled happy ending may not happen but they keep going anyway. The tunes are catchy and the mood is upbeat not angsty, even when things are not going the way the subject of the song may have hoped. These are songs people can identify with which just adds to the enjoyment of listening to them.

I’d have a hard time picking just one favorite track. The first song Full Moon Child draws you and each of the songs that follow tightens the hold on your attention. I Am, You Are is a commentary on how we, as humans, are losing touch with our fellow humans in this busy world. These are songs of love, of regrets, of all the things that make up life. Great writers don’t really show us a light, they show us a mirror and that reflection is what is really enlightening. Ben Glover is one of those writers.

I urge you to go to Ben’s myspace page and listen to his music. You too will become and instant fan. You will be hearing lots more from this singer/songwriter.
