The next installment of the fabulous LED sessions at McHugh’s Bar in Belfast NI will be on Thursday October 20th at 9:00pm – October 21st at 1:00am.

LED is the brainchild of Siobhan Day and Orla Lynch. They have been presenting monthly shows at McHugh’s for some time now and each one gets better and better.

The line up this time is: Una McCann Band, Chris Keys, Nathan Ball, Donal Scullion, & Polar Beyond. If you want to be on the cutting edge of the massive talent on the Belfast Music Scene you can’t miss this one!

EP Launch Announced for Jewels of the Sky

Oracle has announced a Launch Party at Auntie Annie’s in Belfast on Sun Mar 27 from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am. The party is to celebrate the launch of their debut EP Jewels Of The Sky Three of the songs on this EP were semi finalists in the 2010 UK Songwriters’ Contest. The band is also working on a new single called The Underlying Flame which, when released, will benefit the Mcmillan Cancer Center.

2011 MTV EMAs to be held in Belfast

The 2011 MTV European Music Awards show will be held at Odyssey Arena on Sunday November 6th. We think this is only fitting since there is so much really great music coming out of Belfast these days. Belfast was the home to Van Morrison, Snow Patrol and many others who went on to Rock fame world wide. It is also the home to many, many artists poised to take the world by storm any time now also. We think Belfast was a great choice!

LED Present “Sing a song, Writer!”

Attn Belfast readers: LED, which stands for Live Each Day, is presenting another show at McHugh’s tomorrow night. These shows benefit Project Zambia. This is the first show of 2011 so come on out and support it. On the bill are: Tanya & The Whiskey Princes, Una McCann Band, Steve McCann, Tony McHugh and Siobhan Day. A great night’s entertainment and all for an excellent cause.

Live Every Day Promotions

Live Every Day or LED Promotions is a new company put together but two Belfast songwriters, Siobhan Day and Orla Lynch. The company was born when a series of charity gigs that had been held in McHugh’s Basement, in Belfast were going to be canceled after the promoter moved to London. Siobhan and Orla didn’t want to see that happen so they formed LED Promotions, the first all female, promotions company doing this type of event. The gigs benefit Project Zambia and also showcase the talent of the many great songwriters of Belfast and Northern Ireland.

In the US, we don’t get a lot of news out of Belfast and many Americans only heard about the terrible things that happened during the Troubles. What isn’t as well known here, is that great music has risen like a Phoenix out of the ashes of those times. The music scene in Belfast and Norther Ireland is exploding with massive talent on a par with Nashville, New Orleans, LA and New York.

LED is arranging a series of gigs. The first one was on Sept 15th and was a success so there will be others. The next one is October 13th at McHugh’s Basement in Belfast. You can help a good cause and get some exposure for your songs. A definite win-win situation.

Spotlight on Chris Keys

In celebration of St Patrick’s Day this month we will be showcasing as many Irish performers as we can. Everyone is Irish this month so we’d like to introduce you to your cousins from the old country. Ireland has long been the home of great music and stories. This country nurtures the creative soul which is evident in the great number of singers, songwriters and other artists who live there. It is difficult for young artists, and even not so young artists, to get a foot in the door in Ireland as it is the world over. If we, as fans, don’t help them out where will tomorrow’s music come from? So let’s bypass all the powers that be and give a listen to them. We featured Siobhan Day yesterday and today we will shine the spotlight on another young artist that we featured a while back.

Chris Keys is a singer-songwriter from Belfast. We posted his bio earlier but here is a little more info and a sample of his great music. Chris is 26 years old and has been featured in the film Imagine while busking in his home town. He is currently working on his second album. Guinness Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival

The 6th Annual Guinness Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival will be held Feb 24-28, 2010. 150 songwriters will take part in the event which will feature 20 seminars and 42 concerts. I wish I was on that side of the pond as I have a strong suspicion that Belfast today is as much a hot bed of music and creativity as Liverpool was in the 50s and 60s. Liverpool launched The Beatles and enough other great groups that what was known as the British Invasion landed on the shores of the US and the world and forever changed the face of music. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a Celtic Invasion hit the world any time now with the talent coming out of Ireland and the UK and the talented people the world over who are making their music in Celtic style using traditional Celtic Instruments.

Our readers from the Belfast area should definitely take this event in. The next supergroup a la the Beatles might be right on your doorstep. Two of Fanrealm’s favorites are taking part in the festival. Mickey Coleman will be there on the 24th and Oracle will be playing on the 27th along with another band Oracle’s lead guitarist Chris Logan plays in called Exit. I have listened to them on my space too and they are excellent.

Thanks so much to David from Oracle for the heads up on this event. Oracle will be playing at 8PM sharp on the 27th. You don’t want to miss them (remember that whole Beatles warning above.. ).They are definitely a band to watch.
