Canadian blues folk songwriter heads out to tour Scottish cities in May

Canadian singer songwriter, James Clark Jones will be bringing his captivating and sincere style of songwriting to Scotland in the beginning of May. Making stops in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dingwall, James sees Scotland as a welcome home away from home.

“In Canada, I feel Scottish and in Scotland, I feel Canadian,” explains the Glasgow born Canadian. “I always have one foot in each country.”

James moved to Canada as a child, but has always been connected to Scotland, often using the tension between finding identity in each place as inspiration for his writing. In fact, his song “Glasgow” draws on the experience many people who emigrate share of growing up in one country, but being unable to ignore the part of you that originated elsewhere.

In Canada, James is well known for his engaging live performances where he wins over the crowd with his nylon string guitar picking, and a catalogue of songs dripping with conviction.

Drawing from a tradition of songwriters who don’t write unless they have something to say, James’ music is both thought provoking and melodically enjoyable. Fans of anyone from Gordon Lightfoot to Henry Mancini will enjoy James’ genre-bending tunes. It’s difficult to think of a style that isn’t given at least a nod in one of his songs, making Jones an easy artist to become a fan of.

James Clark Jones has done his fair share of work with 30 years in the music industry and comes from a background as a guitarist in rock bands before setting out with his own songs. His solo act provides beautifully pared down arrangements to give each song more weight and simplicity. Thankfully, James’ diverse musical history peeks through his performances, holding a tight grip on his audience’s attention as they continue guessing what genre will pop up next.

James has four studio albums available and is often releasing singles, keeping his fans up to date with a satisfying stream of tunes. His most recent album is titled Dispatch from Purgatory and features a blues and folk focus, leading listeners through nine tracks filled with intricate guitar riffs and insightful lyrics.

For this Scottish tour, James will start out at Linen 1906 in Glasgow on May 3 and will stay in town to play on May 4 at The Roxy 171. Heading over to Edinburgh, James will take the stage on May 5 at Nobles Bar and then make his way back to Glasgow to play May 6 at 13th Note as a part of the EFC Festival. He will finish off the tour in Dingwall at The Greenhouse on May 7.
