Gaelic Storm Is Back With Brand New Album “Cabbage”!

Gaelic Storm is back with their new album Cabbage, the follow up to their 2008 independent release ‘What’s The Rumpus?’ that debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Chart. As many tens of thousands of record buyers and festival-goers know, Gaelic Storm is “a whirlwind ruckus” (Village Voice) that tour over two hundred days per year and play high-energy, foot-stomping, feel-good music. Cabbage is further testament to the band’s contagious energy, combining influences from rock, bluegrass, Jamaican, African and Middle Eastern music that may surprise those expecting purely traditional Celtic music. The quintet’s new release once again showcases Gaelic Storm’s signature acoustic sound with a brand new batch of crafted story-songs and driving instrumentals.

New CDs and EPs announced

Many of our favorite bands have or are about to release new cds. We have already mentioned the long awaited Cabbage by Gaelic Storm and Further Adventures by The Saw Doctors, both of which we are very impatiently waiting for. There are also several of our favorites who have just released cds.

Blaggards

The Blaggards have just released their 2nd cd Live in Texas The cd is currently available at cdbaby and will be available at ITunes and Amazon later this month. This cd is said to capture the high energy style of their live shows. This is one band who can take a classic and make it uniquely their own. This cd includes such favorites as Leaving of Liverpool and Wild Rover done in Blaggards’ unique Irish/Texan way. Your collection is just not complete without this cd. Coyote Run

Coyote Run is another high energy Celt Rock band that takes traditional songs and makes them uniquely their own by using every thing from bagpipes to didgeridoos.

They have been going strong for 10 years, which is fantastic for any band. Their latest cd, 10 Years and Running, celebrates this rare event in the music business. It is a 2 disk set that is a retrospective that covers their career. This cd is available on their website in their store. Click here to purchase it.

Like any really great band, they are best appreciated in a live show and they are holding a special concert to celebrate the new album and the band’s long run. The concert will be held at the Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg, VA on July 16 and 17. Former band members will be joining in the fun and it should be a monumental event. If you are in the area you absolutely can’t miss this one. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-HISTORY or by clicking here You will need to put in the date you want tickets for and scroll down to Kimball Events and Films. This is the ticket outlet for all of Colonial Williamsburg which is great vacation destination. There are lots of great things to do and you can immerse yourself in Colonial History, ghost walks and local shopping (lots of nearby outlets.) It would make a great weekend get away and then you can enjoy Coyote Run in the evenings. Okay commercial over, I am a Virginian so I have to share our attractions with the world, right?

Oracle

I am delighted to be able to let you know that the debut album by Oracle, Jewels of the Sky, is now available. I have been a huge fan of this band for quite some time. This EP was produced by Chris Logan, who plays lead guitar with the band, and is a sound engineer in his day job. He did an amazing job on it taking the unique Oracle sound to a whole new level. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results and I liked the way the songs sounded before. My personal favorite, Best Days, is even more fantastic now. If you listened to their music before you have to go back and listen to the final studio versions.

Guinness is Looking for a Few Good Bands

In order to expand Arthur’s Day festivities from the current Cork, Galway and Dublin celebrations to include every place in Ireland from Donegal to Kerry, Guinness would like to sign up 100 bands to perform with the likes of Snow Patrol and Paolo Nutini as Arthur Day grows.

To accomplish this worthy goal they will be holding showcases on Thursdays from July 15- August 5th. For more info and to register, bands of legal age, are asked to go to their website http://www.guinness.com/en-ie/arthursday/our_thursdays.html

We can only hope that once Arthur’s Day, Sept 23, becomes a National Holiday in Ireland they take the campaign world wide. International Arthur’s Day has a pretty nice ring to it, don’t you think? Guinness could give the entire music industry and a lot of bands a much needed boost by thinking globally. Let the record show (hey they have a whole book on records) that Fanrealm is more than willing to do all we can to promote International Arthur Day. Arthur Guinness gave us a wonderful elixir that is not only good for you but can help the sagging economy and quite possibly even promote world peace so he certainly deserves a day! Great music and Great beer – what’s not to like?

From The Heart 2 – Charity Concert

Once in a while a cause so worthy comes along that I feel compelled to write about it. This is the case with From The Heart 2, a charity concert staged for a second time to honor the memory of a vibrant, young man and beloved son lost to suicide. The concert idea was conceived by the mother of Eamonn Johnston who has tirelessly worked to craft a legacy to his memory and awareness of the increasing number of young people in Derry and all of Ireland who are lost every day to this evil and upward trend.

Following the success of last years “From The Heart” concert in The Millennium Forum, a second will take place to raise awareness of suicide and honor Eamonn’s memory.

DATE: Saturday, July 10, 2010

Time: 8:00pm – 11:30pm

Location: Millennium Forum, Derry

The following is an excerpt from a statement by SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan:
“The marked incidence of suicide in Derry – in particular among young people – is devastating the families and friends of victims and shocking the whole community. We are all left struggling with perplexing questions. No one on their own can establish or express adequate answers. This is a profound issue where we literally have to come together – different agencies, churches, professionals, community groups and families. We have to admire and applaud so much good, hard, sensitive work which is being done and so much of it led by those who have been bereaved by suicide.
Through this follow up concert, Bebe Johnson is determined to do just that. This is a warm way to bring people together to talk openly and honestly about suicide and mental health issues, so that we can encourage our young people to do the same. Bebe has put her heart and soul into the organisation of this concert. In support of her courageous efforts, I would urge people throughout the North West to support this concert, the proceeds of which will go to Foyle Search & Rescue.”

Celtic Thunder Tickets now available in more cities

Many people have emailed me about where they can get tickets for the fall Celtic Thunder tour. The best place is from the local PBS station in the given cities as they will have the best seats. They are also very costly so people are searching for other options, especially if they are want several tickets. There are a very few venues selling their own tickets. Most tickets are being sold through Ticketmaster/LiveNations. I will add those links for the cities that are selling. This is a very long tour but Ticketmaster is not yet selling tickets for most cities. The Thunder Bay show is Monday night but as far as I could tell from the venue website tickets are still available.

Click on the links below (in red) for more info on the shows selling tickets now. I will post updates as more cities are added. I have only added links for cities that are actually selling tickets or will be this week. For those with pre-sale dates the pre-sale code is DUBLIN.

Second Shows added to venues on Up & Coming Tour

Paul McCartney has added second shows to some of his venues. Because of demand a second show has been added in Pittsburgh. The new one will be the following night on Thursday August 19 at the Consol Energy Arena. Toronto has sold out so a second show is being added there also. The new showdate is Monday August 9th also at the Air Canada center. I have updated the post with Paul’s tour to reflect these changes.

Charlotte added to Up and Coming Tour

Paul McCartney has announced that Charlotte, NC has been added to his tour. He will play the Time Warner Arena on July 28. This will be his first appearance in NC in 17 years. I have updates the schedule in his tour post to reflect this change.

Tickets will go on sale Saturday 12th June at 10am at livenation.com, Ticketmaster and the Time Warner Cable Arena Box Office. To charge call 800-745-3000.

New Look for Fanrealm

June is the start of our 8th month on line and during that time we have grown a lot, thanks to the readers, contributors and all the bands and singers who have worked with us. We have just passed 36,000 visitors and to celebrate our growth we will be changing format over the weekend. We will be going from a blog style format to a news magazine format. That will, hopefully, make the posts a bit easier to read. Navigating the site will be a bit different, as well. In the new format, the newest post won’t always be the one on top but it will be at the top of the list of recent posts in the right column.

The new format will feature most prominently our most popular categories and the posts in those categories. The categories we feature on this page will change as the popularity of the categories change. For example, a lot of people are interested in festivals at this time of year so that will be a featured category now but when the summer is over a different category may replace it on the front page. All categories will be accessible via the category list that will appear in the lower left hand corner of the front page.

Most of our readers seem to find us via a search engine which lands them on a specific post and the posts will have a much cleaner look in the new format. We are excited about the change. It will allow us to feature content on the front page for a longer period of time and make the really popular content easier to find.

This change should be a lot less time consuming than moving the site to the new server but should things not work exactly as you expect them to (some of the links may have to be redone after the format change) try and bear with us till we get everything tweeked. We should be completely back in business by Monday, barring any mischief by the cybergremlins.

When We Were Brave now at ITunes

The debut cd by Paddy Nash and the Happy Enchiladas, When we Were Brave, is now available at ITunes. This is a great cd by a great band and we want it to sell out quickly and send them packing back to the studio to create another one. It’s that good. It definitely leaves you wanting more. Click the icon below to go right to ITunes and download it. I have been trying all this while to decide which was my favorite song and I finally have — it’s Other Side of the World or maybe Barefoot in Verona or….guess I better listen some more……..get yourself a copy and help me decide.
