Tarheel Celts and Indies

So here it is Music Friday again and April 1st to boot. But I’m not playing any pranks today. Just sharing some really great indie bands from the next state to me – North Carolina. If you find a band here that you like (and, trust me, you will) be sure to like them on Facebook. Bands, especially indie bands, need to grow their fanbase and they don’t have huge publicity budgets like major labels do. Indies are very much grassroots operations, meaning it’s up to us, the fans, to support them. The more support they have the easier it is for them to get bookings so we can see them live. So listen to the samples below then hit the Facebook and other links and support the band.

American Indies

Music Friday ~ Let’s Hear It For the Songwriters

It’s Music Friday again and this time we will be showcasing songwriters. Most of the bands that we feature have at least one great songwriter in the crew, but today we are looking at songwriters who generally perform alone or with the help of a few friends or a small back up band. Their music is their own vision not so much of a group effort. These Indies hale from around the world so grab your favorite beverage and sit back and have a listen to some really unique music and let these songwriters speak to you.

2Numb2C from Hellebecq, BE Joel was the lead singer for many covers bands till he decided to strike off on his own and do his own thing. He is inspired by the songs of the 80s so if that is your favorite decade you will surely love 2Numb2C

The Mad Pride from Wollongong, NSW, AU is the brainchild of songwriter Rowan Galagher The variety here is amazing. The songs run the range from soft, almost acoustical to moody and experimental enough to be the sound track to a Tim Burton movie. They each push the limits of their genre. Be sure and listen to them all as they are very different and there is sure to be something you really like.

FairplayCollective from New York, NY is actually several solo singer/songwriters who have banded together for support. They aren’t an actual band although often one or more of them will preform at the same gig. They are made up of Mark Dignam, Brendan O’ Shea, Michael Brunnock from Ireland and Jenna Nicholls and Niall Connolly from the US. All are now working in New York.

David Hopkins from Las Vegas, NV is another great singer/songwriter who came to the US from Ireland. He got his start in Music with the rock group Lir. He did a stint with the Who and has opened for Sinead O’Conner, Jeff Buckley, Damien Rice, The Frames, and Matt Nathanson, among many others. His album There Are Debts is available through Amazon and ITunes. It is also on Lastfm here.

Donna Fullman from Brighton, UK. Donna is another great artist recommended by Andy Hearn. Donna’s songs are both lyrically and musically beautiful. She was influenced by the likes of John Lennon, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan and she is following in the great tradition of those giants. Her songs are amazingly brilliant. You will be hearing more from her.

Indie Friday

Here is is Music Friday again. Where does the time go? This week we are featuring Indies all with their own distinct sound. This isn’t the top 40 type stuff you hear on the radio. This is very unique music that you only get from Indie artists who are following their muse not the dictates of a major record company or conglomerate of radio stations trying to appeal to the most people to keep the bean counters busy. Not that there is anything wrong with making money. Everyone needs to do that. I just prefer the voice of the artist to be the top priority. So sit back and enjoy these great artists who have their own sound and don’t fit nicely into a specific category. Have glass or two of your favorite beverage and let the stress of the work week slip away into oblivion at least for a few days. Enjoy!

Luke Thomas Releases Debut EP Today

Luke Thomas is an artist from Somerset, England. He came to my attention through Andy Hearn. Luke describes his music as Acoustic / Alternative / Folk. Luke’s is kind of a dream story. He was discovered on myspace by Dene Kellaway, owner of the Tree and Bloomfield Labels who signed Luke to the Bloomfield Label. Luke’s debut EP Floating Leaves comes out today. It includes the single of the same name which went to #1 of the Undiscovered Charts in the UK and remained on the charts for 8 weeks. It will be available digitally through Itunes, Last FM, Rhapsody, Amazon and CDbaby.

Some of Your Favorites to Enjoy During the Holidays

Fanrealm wishes you and yours the happiest of holidays. We are moving Music Fridays up to Wednesday again this week because, like you, we have a ton of things to do and not enough time to do them. Sometime this week, grab a bit of time to yourself and enjoy these bands. These are the ones that seem to be big draws so they must have a lot of fans. There are other bands that get a lot of hits too but they don’t have a page at ReverbNation or they don’t have any songs on it. Yeah, I think that is kind of silly too.

Anyway, have a great time this week and weekend and remember to give yourself the gift of time to listen to some great music. Have a glass of eggnog or the beverage of your choice and chill out to these great sounds. Also don’t forget to go to http://www.paddynash.co.uk/web/music.asp and download the great new Christmas song It Being Christmas/A Place at the Table I, personally, think that one is even better than Fairytale of New York Also there are some great Christmas tunes to listen to at this post in case you missed it.
