Celtrock
by JaneW on Jan.14, 2010, under Band Info, Barley Juice, Black Eyed Dempseys, Coast, Enter the Haggis, Mother Grove, Runrig, Seven Nations, The Pubcrawlers, Young Dubliners
Another direction that Celtic music has gone is into the rock field. Celtic Rock is known by various names. One Celtic rock band calls their music kilt rock, other uses sham-rock. Whatever they call it, Celtic rock is an exciting form of Celtic music. Some bands do more traditional songs just in a rock style. Others use traditional Celtic instruments to do rock music. Some have a more punk bend to their music but it is all distinctive and infectious. Once you start listening you will find yourself wanting more. There are a lot of great bands out there doing what I am calling Celtrock (just because I like the sound of it.
) There are many fans of this genre and it is one I see growing in leaps and bounds.
For those who have never listened to any Celtrock, I will list a few of my favorites. Some are very well known to our readers but there may be a few you haven’t heard of and need to check out. Give these bands a listen. This is just a sampling there are lots of other bands out there to discover and I will post more as I find them or they find me.
Enter the Haggis one of my favorites. This band hails from Toronto, Canada They tour extensively. They are bound to come to a venue near you and when they do you HAVE to go see them. In the meantime check out their music here http://www.enterthehaggis.com/ or here

There are other pages up at myspace for bands with the same name but this is the official Seven Nations page.
Barley Juice is a great band out of Philadelphia, PA If that is your neck of the woods, seek them out. Also look for them at festivals this summer. You can hears samples of their music at their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/barleyjuice and get more info on the band at their website http://www.barleyjuice.com
Mother Grove is a band from Indiana. They have a great sound. Check them out at their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/mothergrove or their website http://www.mothergrove.com
The Pubcrawlers hail from Maine. They lean a bit more to the punk than some of the others mentioned here but their music will really get you jumping. Check out their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/thepubcrawlers and their website www.the-pubcrawlers.com
Black Eyed Dempseys A great band out of CA If you are on the west coast you will want to look for them. Their myspace page is http://www.myspace.com/blackeyeddempseys
Young Dubliners Another great CA band who are not to be missed. Their myspace page is
http://www.myspace.com/youngdublinersand their website is WWW.YOUNGDUBS.COM
Coast This band hails from Southampton, England. Their tour schedule for the beginning of the year is posted below. For samples of their music check out their my space page http://www.myspace.com/coastyrock and their website coastrock.co.uk
RUNRIG Another great celtrock group from the UK. Check them out at their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/runrigofficial and their website http://www.runrig.co.uk/home.html
This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There are many more great celtrockbands out there. I will cover more in a future post. If you would like to suggest a celtrock band to cover email me at fans @ fanrealm . com (remove the spaces) and let me know who they are where I can hear their music. Bands should feel free to suggest themselves also.

Gutter Anthems by Enter The Haggis

Enter the Haggis Gutter Anthems
by Stacey P
I’ll start out by saying every time I play this at work, I have to skip the intro. I get weird looks from both co-workers, and customers thinking I am on some religious bend. After that, this CD is full of energy that keeps me moving through work and beyond.
The Little and the Leaves starts, and I can immediately feel the energy. The instruments are the first thing that I notice. Usually it’s voices I notice, not so much the instruments. But with this group, the guitars, pipes, and fiddles rule. They do sing, and the words are good, but it’s the instruments that I really pay attention to with this group.
And the names….
The names of some of ETH’s songs just grab you before you even have a listen. Like “Noseworthy and Piercy”, or “Did You Call Me Albatros”. You know you just have to find out what that is about.
If the song itself doesn’t explain it, you can find the explanation in the insert of the cover.
I swear if this group is ever in my state I am gonna see them. I have yet to do so, but from what I have heard from others, this group is well worth the effort, and I am determined to find out in person.
