Some of my favorites
One of the ideas behind this blogzine is to share some of our favorite Celtic music so I will post a bit about some of the musicians I have been following for years and one of the new ones. These are all US acts who perform Traditional Celtic music and/or Celtic inspired original music.
Laura Powers
Laura’s music has been one of my favorites for years. Her music and her voice weave a beautiful spell and take you back to the early days of the Celts. Her Goddess Trilogy is my all time favorite piece of music. Much of it was used in the movie the DaVinci Code so I am not alone in my admiration of it. It would be very hard to pick a favorite song from the three cds but if I had to pick one it would be the haunting Tir Na Nog
You can get a sample of Laura’s music at her website http://www.laurapowers.com/music.asp If you are like me you will have to own this beautiful music. Laura is also an accomplished artist.
You can also hear her music on her myspace page http://www.myspace.com/laurapowers5
Her music is also for sale at Amazon.com
Emerald Rose
Another of my long time favorites is a band from Georgia called Emerald Rose. They are more of a rocking band than the mellow Laura Powers but they also pay homage to the early pagan Celts. They now have several cds out but I have been a fan since Bending Traditions. My favorite song on this one is the Hills of America which tells the tale of the Irish immigrant who came to America by the millions.

Their cds are available at cdbaby and Amazon.com Music downloads are available and ITunes
Burning Bridget Cleary
One of my recent finds is a hot new band from PA. They were formed in 2006 and the band is made up of a father/daughter team and a friend of the daughter. They are classified as folk/rock and can be both mellow and tremendously energetic. The name of the band is a tribute to a 19th century Irish Woman named Bridget Cleary. You can read her story on their website at http://www.burningbridgetcleary.com/home.html Be sure to listen to their music too. I’m sure you will also be hooked. You can buy their cds at CD baby and Amazon
